In a continuation of the segments that I did on ABC here is the segment on wallpaper. It is so important that we get the old idea of wallpaper out of our heads. These wallpapers are nothing like the ones we grew up with. I am so in love with what we can do to change the entire feel of a space with these amazing products.

Wallpaper has grown and changed over the years. The materials used are different, textures are gallore and they are like pieces of art. So I thought I would show you some of my favorites.

Behind the scenes of Taping the Design Tourist Spot for NBC Monday, Sep 28 2015

I have recently had the pleasure to be filmed for national TV for NBC’s Daytime TV Show. It was quite and experience. It always seems like it is such an easy simple thing but the reality is there is a Greta deal that goes into filming a spot for TV. First to achieve what looks natural on camera actually takes hours and a Tom more makeup and styling than you ever do for everyday. So I thought I would share some of the process for you to see the hours of prep and filming that goes into a three minute spot.

First here are some great shot that Sweet Rose Photography took of the hair and makeup prep before filming.

The team from Tangle Me Knot did a great job. The process started at 8am to be ready for taping to start at 10am.

There was the outfit checks and getting all mic’d up for the taping.

Then there was making sure that everything was perfect in the showroom for filming.

We then needed to walk through the showroom and go over the angles and areas to be filmed along with what we were going to talk about.

Then comes the actual filming and having fun!

So after a day of it all the tape goes to editing. Intros and exited are filmed and it turns into a three minute segment. Want to see the final version? Check it out on the website http://www.artfulconceptions.net

What Style is that? Thursday, Oct 23 2014

I am asked on a regular basis to define a certain interior design style. I believe that this happens so much because many styles of design blend together and of course because us designers love to combine styles. So when I think about interior design styles there is of course the main ones that most people think of which are modern, contemporary, traditional, and country. But inside each of those styles there are many other styles that take bits of each style and blend it together to create a new look. For instance if you are into a beach look you may take bits from country, traditional and modern to achieve that comfy, airy and relaxing beach look. If you love a West Indies look you are mostly using traditional pieces mixed with some modern and lots of texture. How about the ever present Tuscan look that people are still talking about? Well that is traditional pieces with warm color choices and lots of stone and wood accents and touches of country. Creating the right feeling and design in a room, home or office is about knowing the client but also knowing how to mix and match to achieve a great look. So how about some pictures of different styles and you tell me whether you can if you can see where the items cross over and how simple changes take a piece from one style into the other.

Quick Tips to Freshen Your Home Monday, Jun 23 2014

There are many times in which your home needs a quick updating. This can be because you are looking to sell your home, you are having company or you are just plain tired of things. Here are 10 of my favorite ways to freshen up your home without major changes.

1) Change up your pillows. Find some great pattern pillows for your sofas and chairs. The change will make the room feel like a whole new space.

2) Change the area rug. Ok this can be expensive if you are the hand-knotted type so in that case change rooms with the rug. If you are not the hand-knotted type look at changing your rugs to a natural fiber rug to bring in texture.

3) Refinish an accent piece. I love the look of painted pieces. These can be a chest, accent table or a kitchen table. You can completely change the feeling of a place by refinishing a piece or two.

4) De-clutter your space. The number one reason people feel tired with a space is the lack of storage. This usually occurs because there is too much clutter. Add closet storage and multifunctional tables and chests for additional storage to keep the clutter out of eye sight. Also impose a system to get rid of paper clutter.

5) Use a few great large accessories instead of a bunch of small nic-nacks.

6) Incorporate season flowers and greenery to your home. Changing greenery with the season will give you a new feeling many times through out the year.

7) Paint an accent wall. Tired of everything being the same color. Create and accent wall with either paint or wallpaper to give the space a new feeling.

8) Rearrange the furniture. Changing up the way that you use a room can really change the feel to the space. Think outside of the box on this one, it is ok to place sofas on an angle. They do not have to be up against a wall.

9) Add a backsplash to your kitchen. This is a relatively easy update that will give your home much value and wow factor.

10) Change out plate glass bathroom mirrors for nicely framed ones. This will update the entire space and add value to the home.
