Let’s Talk Color! Thursday, Sep 6 2018

So often recently we hear all about neutrals. And yes I love neutrals but they have a place, a whole home should not be neutrals from top to bottom. You can go with pops of color or go bold with some large pieces in color.

The right amount of color mixed with neutrals gives the space a huge impact. It’s not something to be afraid of. Go for color in a large piece then bring some of that color into pillows and rugs.

Add flowers for pops of color. Flowers remind us of the outdoors and make people smile. They also are a great place for you to change the feel of the space. Flowers can follows the seasons to change your home’s style as the seasons change.

Add color to rugs for a base for your design.

Give your fireplace some love. Pillows are great for additions of color.

Don’t forget artwork for you pops of color. Forget the traditional and go for a wow!

Go out there and add some color to your home!

Are you Ready to Sell? Sunday, Mar 4 2018

The real estate market is in full swing and the traditional wisdom is to get your house on the market in the spring. Well we are there here in Florida and will be there soon in northern locations. So are you ready to sell? Have you made your updates that your home needs to bring in the right buyers? Buyers are checking out your kitchen, bathrooms and master suite. But they are also looking to see how spacious the house is. Can they fit all of their items into the home? Will they have a better life in your home? So here are some tips and links to articles that we have been helping out with at Realtor.com

Declutter!!!! Go through your closet and remove about half of what you have in there. It’s coming on spring so get the heavy coats and winter boots out of the closet. A potential buyer needs to see that there will be enough room for their items. If you have it packed full it will seem like there is no room for their things.

Update!!!! Do you still have formica counter tops? Change them asap! Go with a neutral granite and undermount sinks to give a higher end feel with lots of counter space. This does not have to be an expensive upgrade as lots of fabricators have remnants that cna be used for your bathrooms. Buyers want stone counters and if they don’t see them it will be an upgrade they will feel needs to go in and that means a deduction in what they want to pay you for your house.

Backsplash!!! Do you have backsplash in the kitchen, and not just the 4″ standard splash on top of your counter. I’m talking splash that goes from the counter to under the cabinets. If you have it make sure it is clean and anywhere that needs re-grouting you get touched up. If you don’t there are lots of great options everything from 12″x 12″ tin panels to peel and stick and amazing decorative tiles. Here is some of our advice on peel and stick tiles¬†https://www.realtor.com/advice/home-improvement/peel-and-stick-tile/

Staging!!!! This is vitally important and is one of the hardest things for homeowners to do to their own house. Staging is not about designing the home for you to live in, it is about staging the space to feel as large as possible and on trend for the potential buyer to see themselves in the space. It is about depersonalizing the space. This can be super hard on the seller because you have your home the way that you like it, however the new buyer is going to have a hard time seeing past the red walls, or the kids character rooms, or the toy baskets in every room and the personal pictures. Staging is about creating an image. Here are some pictures from a home we recently staged.

And here is a great link to get some more information about the difference between staging and designing. https://www.realtor.com/advice/sell/home-staging-vs-interior-design-difference/

Paint!!! If you just painted recently great, make sure to touch up everywhere so the potential buyer isn’t seeing scuff marks. If you haven’t painted in awhile it is time to paint. Think neutral. Stay away from overly bright and potential turn off colors. Light grays, taupes and whites are your best bets for selling quickly. They will make everything feel brand new and will make the home feel larger.

Have more questions? Give us a shout and we will be happy to help you get your home ready for sale.

Modern Traditional Saturday, Feb 3 2018

I can’t believe that it is February already! We have been super busy at Artful Conceptions getting homes ready for the new year. As many of you know the normal turnaround for a full home design is about 12 weeks if everything goes as planned. Well part of our super busy beginning of the year was to complete that task in 4 weeks. In fact this week we took a home from nothing Wednesday morning to completely furnished with all artwork and accessories by Friday afternoon. So here are some pictures of the project. (Some pictures are prior to finishing to keep the client identity confidential)

The home is a very traditional style and the client is not super traditional. So we created a modern traditional look with of course an amazing man cave. By combining antiques and modern pieces we were able to create a comfortable yet elegant design. The mixing of wood tones and textures adds depth to the space. Distressed and refined finishes can be great combinations. I love to mix shell inlays with painted distressed pieces. And yes go for the mixing of gold, silver, and bronze finishes. Life is not all in one color your home shouldn’t be either! Mix leather and fabric and don’t forget the pops of color. I know there has been so many images of the monochromatic farmhouse look but life is in color. Your home needs color as well! Don’t let the trend sway you as to what your personal style is. Keep your soul in your home!

Now is the Time Wednesday, Aug 16 2017

As many of you that have followed my blog over the years know we are coming up on Furniture Fashion Week. So, what does that mean to you? It means that there are some really great deals right now on items that will be cut from the current lines. So I thought I would share some of the amazing items that I am seeing at fantastic prices and won’t be around for long.

Ottomans and benches made from beautiful rugs. These are just a couple of the options.

Hand knotted rugs make great ottomans and benches.

Have been looking for poufs? There are tons of options for poufs that will not be available after October.

How about rugs? Everything from hand knotted to tufted to woven are available now at some amazing prices.

Accent, entry, and sofa tables are also making their ways onto the discontinued lists. But you have to act quickly as some of these are only available in small amounts.

Lighting options range from chandeliers to floor lamps to sconces and table lamps. You also may want to think about jumping on ones that are going away as the price may increase come October.

In fact, if you were thinking about changing up your furnishings now is the best time. You will be able to take advantage of the sale items and on new items you will get the lower prices before they get their market increases. And even better if you start now you can get it done for the holidays. Yes I said it, it’s August and if you want new furniture for the holidays it is time to order!
